Iolite ( Cordierite)

iolite is a magnesium iron aluminum cyclosilicate Mineral. also Know as " Cordierite". It is a magnesium-rich Stone chemical formula (Mg,Fe)2Al4Si5O18. that iron-rich mineral called " sekaninaite".

          Resembles Quartz Can be distinguished by Pleochroism and resembles Sapphire can be distinguished by this mineral lower hardness. this mineral has very strong Pleochroism, It is useful to Quickly Identify  this amazing mineral.  It hardness 7 to 7.5  mohs hardness Scale and specific Gravity 2.57 to 2.66. it colors comes as Blue, Smokey Blue, Yellowish Brown, pale blue, Gray, Colourless and greenish.
          Iolite or Cordierite was discovered in 1813, is named French Geologist Louis Cordier.  also, this iolite name comes the greek word for violet. This stone much softer than Sapphire. Transparent iolites use as a gemstone. Mostly, Iolite found in Sri Lanka, Australia, Madagascar, India, Brazil, Tanzania, United States, Namibia and burma.
